This is the story of the rise and fall of Lisp at the Jet Propulsion Lab as told from Erann Gat's personal (and highly biased) point of view. He discusses Lisp's contributions to NASA's mission, why it was so suitable for space exploration tasks, and why after more than a decade of high performance it was discarded in favor of C++.
